What you'll learn

The course starts with networking fundamentals, covering the OSI and TCP/IP models, which explain how different layers of a network interact to enable communication. Students will learn about key networking components like routers, switches, and hubs, as well as devices such as firewalls and access points. An introduction to IP addressing and subnetting will help learners understand how data is routed across networks and the role of IPv4 and IPv6 in addressing network devices.

As the course progresses, participants will delve into LAN (Local Area Network) and WAN (Wide Area Network) design and implementation, learning how to set up, configure, and manage network infrastructures. They will also explore wireless networking, including Wi-Fi standards and how to secure wireless networks.

  • TCP, UDP, ICMP, and ARP
  • Application layer protocols: HTTP, HTTPS, FTP, DNS, and DHCP
  • IEEE 802 standards (Ethernet, Wi-Fi)
  • Role of the IETF and ANSI in networking standards

  • Introduction to network monitoring tools (Wireshark, Nagios, SolarWinds)
  • Performance metrics: latency, packet loss, and throughput
  • Common network issues and resolution strategies
  • Tools for troubleshooting (ping, traceroute, nslookup)
